Yup, I’m sure many people can relate to this headline – especially if you’ve been unemployed once upon a time. In this post, I’d like to share how I keep myself motivated during the job-hunting process.
I read a blog post by Carly of MomOfTwoLittleGirls last week that spoke of removing yourself from unhealthy situations. She advises turning off the noise if things get too much for you. “Remove yourself from unhealthy situations. Disassociate yourself from people who make you feel bad about yourself. Turn off the noise, and you will find that the air will clear, you will be able to breathe again, and you will find your inspiration to carry on.”
A few days prior to this post, I realised how tiring my job hunting was going. I’ve put a lot of energy into preparing for a job interview and being positive for the future. It’s not as easy as it looks.
One day you’re up and another you’re down when you are job hunting. When you’re an introvert, it feels like you’re energy gets sucked after a huge activity like an interview for the day. It’s like being at a conference and meeting new people; you’re so amped and then when you finally find time to be quiet to rest, you feel so drained.

TAKING A BREAK…
My advice (or at least my experience) is that I try to chill the next day. If I had a major event the day prior, the following day I do fewer activities. One needs to take care of yourself, because this will help keep you motivated and your spirit up.

Another thing about job hunting is that most of us don’t have a formal schedule. Yes, you may wake up the same time every day, but are you being productive? We often question ourselves and this may lead to more negative energy being produced. My way almost daily is to make a small list of things I want to do and things u have done.
Even if listening to a podcast or a YouTube video is not contributing to my job search, it helps to lift my spirit. Writing down what I’ve done each day makes me also see where I put in my time and efforts. With this, you can also see where you have procrastinated – I even put in times of how long each activity took me.

Lastly, Melanie of the Imagine You blog talks about volunteering being a way to stay motivated and it also creates career opportunities. She gives 12 more reasons on how to stay motivated during job-hunting in this blog post. I totally agree with her on this, because I’m currently volunteering as well by running a Twitter account of a non-profitable organisation. This activity also reminds me the power of teamwork and the importance of the role of each individual of a team.
That’s all from me; thank you for reading!
If you have any job hunting tips, please share in the comments below. Also, how do you keep yourself motivated?
Really hoping you get that job soon. No tips just keep trying that’s all I can say.
Huge respect for keeping your skills active with pro bono work.
Thanks ladies, I appreciate it.
Thinking of you and hoping the tides turn soon. I love that you are still keeping a positive attitude. I know the feeling of “making it your job to find a job”. Got the same advice many years ago from a very wise lady….It’ll happen, just believeā¤
